The UIN, or Unique Identification Number, is a 13-digit code used to identify natural and legal persons in Cameroon. It is compulsory for all Cameroonian citizens aged 12 or over who wish to carry out administrative, fiscal, social or economic operations in Cameroon.
But how do you obtain your UIN in Cameroon? What documents are required, what steps need to be followed and what deadlines need to be met? In this article, we explain everything you need to know to obtain your UIN.
Issued for a period of validity of 10 years in line with the date of validity of your CNI, the UIN is unique to each individual in order to authenticate the person’s identity and secure their personal data.
From now on, users must present their UIN before carrying out the following operations:
– Opening an account with credit and microfinance institutions. This also includes rechargeable prepaid debit cards
– take out any type of insurance policy
– taking out a subscription to the water and/or electricity networks
– Land registration
– obtaining a licence for a regulated profession
The UIN is therefore an essential document for all Cameroonian citizens, whether resident in Cameroon or not. It is advisable to memorise it or keep a note of it in a safe place, as it may be requested at any time by the competent authorities.
The unique identification number is made up of letters and numbers… the first letters indicate the type of person (natural or legal); the first two digits represent the month of birth, the two following digits the year of birth and the rest are random numbers. Your unique identification number is confidential and should only be shared with the relevant authorities for administrative purposes. Similarly, it is not advisable to use someone else’s number, as doing so could be considered fraud.
E-registration in Cameroon is now possible on www.impots.cm with the DGI, which makes it easy to obtain your UIN without having to go anywhere. It is issued automatically to all taxpayers.
There are two categories of people:
